Violinist In The Metro- A Social Experiment

“A man sat at a metro station and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace.
He collected $32.
When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it.
No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100.

Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of an social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context? The answer is some how "A BIG NO"

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?”

Unforgettable

It's half pass 2 in this very dawn now.

I am here lying on my bed over looking at the city of lights sleeplessly.

I love the night because it is quiet, and peaceful. Though there are some people nearby are still celebrating with their party while enjoying the chill 12"C temperture, but it is okie for me as party is a good thing and they don't really organize party every night.

The sky is dark, no stars as I have enticipated. The city is interesting at this time, as most of the rooms are in dark but I can still see flashes of lights shining out from the rooms, I guess this is one of a way people watch their night show over here.....

I am now lying on this bed....cozy, soft and nice....sleeplessly looking at this calm and chilly night...the sky is dark but I can see it is quite orangey ....perhaps is due to some reflaction from the streetlights....

I am feeling sad, empty and meaningless....perhaps is due to some past event happen 2 days ago...and perhaps is due to the "back to 17 again" I watch just now....I just felt sad...

I am now sleeplessly being bombarded with the memories I have last time....the dates....how we meet....how we know each other, the happy time we had in college and also after class outing...the bad bitter moments....the worse thing.....the anger, the jealousy just everything....all of this seems just so fresh in my memories...though all this has been almost 10months now....but all of the events and moments just seems to happening at yesterday....it is so sad....full with sadness and sorrowness....I really hope all this would be kept and be forgotten as soon as possible, but the moments are just so unforgettable.....

BJ's creativity wall

I went to my ex high skoo the other day BJ (around april) lol, for the hari sukan.

As usual when even i went back to my ex-school, i would just walk around the premises to check out some new staffs before meeting my friends and my belovered teachers "P muahaha XD.

Through out my jalan-jalan, i noticed some of the changes are ... new paintings along the corridor to Block B, an added roles of classes behind the block A (place where we use to play Bola Jaring) , an additional Foot ball goal, an additional basketball shooting board, tons of new plans in-front of the entrance, a couple of new telephone boots, various sets of new banches lies around the front compound of our 6-stars korperasi, and also a new "Creativity wall"

yeah creativity wall huh...well back in our days i dont think that thing even exist, well apparently this wall is specially "created" by the teachers for student to show and express their enthusiasm of artistic talents, thoughts, emotions and foremost craps in their mind......

for your information, this piece of wall is located in between our Block A and B (technically its in Block A) lol, well remember when we walkthrough from Block B to A... where there is a stretch of open air (with trees and grasses)...well yeah thats the place for creativity wall. In my opinion, the drawings....or should i say craps or rubbish are horrible and its not pleasant at all lol XD
***sorry ya junior, i am just telling the truth...nothing personal though lol XD.

I did manage to took some pictures for that creativity wall...well do have a look at em people ....our good old school has now been..."tattooed" with tons and tons of horrible n ugly, plus disgusting paintings lol XD

Hiya people

hmm thankx you for giving me de farewell gift, it was cool. atleast i hv something to stare at is through out my 14 hours flight lol...

hmm when i get to london ...everything goes accordingly to as plan (transports, eateries etc) and just as i touched down in london, i began with my touring saga...quite fun lol ..and quite happy cuz i manage to cover 10/11 locations for my 1st day...yay !!! (44 attractions in london, so i need to cover 11 places in a day)

everything here are fine, hv lots of parks, birds, colonel buildings...the atmosphere here is somehow familiar with wot v hv in KL, old buildings, old and dirty subway (Metro) black and dirty walls over the cities and yeah one thing really freak me out is ...there are CCTV all over the place...

yeah its like if you can hack into the CCTV systems in london you can actually stalk some one...where ever u go, hotel, road, small lanes, park, Metro stations, streets in the cities, tunnel roads etc...you will definitely be watch by CCTV...so quite freaggering lah lol

okie will keep myself update tonight when i get back ...ohh yeah its noon time over here by the way (433pm UK= 1133pm MYS)

The Burakumin

I came a cross with an article in the CNBC page about the Burakumin issues with the google earth. (Source: )

Just to give you guys a gimps of what Burakumin really is, well Burakumin is actually just like ordinary homosapien, they have two arms, two legs, a head, a pair of eyes, a nose, a mouth, hair...yeah you name it...they are exactly the same as you and me. :)

However during the feudal era of Japan, Burakumin (a type of race) who are the outcast communities which mainly comprised those with occupations related with death or ritual impurity (assassin, undertakers, black witch etc) and are forced to lived in their own hamlets and hut.

During the E-do period, the Samurais was considered as the ultimate class of all, meanwhile the burakumin are treated as the lowest class of all in their social class systems, on top of that Burakumin was often forced to live in the goonies separating them from the rest of the society. Nevertheless, the social castal system of Japan was abolished in 1871 and all the social class of Japan was uniformed into a single body (every one is equal)

Conversely , when I read through the article, I am quite shock to find out even today,the modern Japanese society are actually still practicing this castal system. From the article, it is stated the society was pretty upsad to find out there is a small community of burakumin descendants living together with the normal class in the
modern city.

So why are they still doing that? Isn't that they have already abolished the castal system since 1871? (138 years) Perhaps, well who knows this system is already becoming part of their culture huh...well dont get me wrong, i am not stereotyping all Japanese are still concern and would discriminate the burakumin (I am only referring to the case in the article) ....

Well, as for me, I think the society would still need a hundred years to fully accept the Burakumin as on par with their social status....so what do you think then...how many more years do the society need to spend in-order for them to accept this particular poor group of people?

After reading the article above it does strike me an interesting hypothesis though. Human are easily twisted to the "DARK SIDE" rather than living in a uniform, safe, monotonous society?

I Remember

Feeling of love

What is love? A simple bond between two or more individuals? A romance relationship between individuals? An expect of sharing and caring between people? A special feeling towards a person which would bring happiness, examzity, great expeession etc?.... Well n many more u names it.

For me. I think love is just a word...but the actual meaning and "symbol" behind this is the connection...it's all about actions and behaviour of a person towards another. 

Yes in layman term love is define as being loyal, carrying, missing another part and all. On the other hand in the scientific approach...well yes it's nothing but chemical reaction within the body :)

Since there is a reaction (chemical reaction) so it is logically to have a chemical reaction to "undo" this chemical reaction right? It's like the ancient Chinese discovery, Ying V.S Yang, Cause V.S effect, coincident V.C chance, day V.S night, rise V.S fall etc...so this law of universe should work for the same for the love chemical reaction right? 

Sadly this is a human error, we human is good in creating, we create more and more things thru we human don't have a chance to look back at our achievements....this apply to love too...we created this reaction of love, but when things happen to a bloody relationship, we human just don't just consume the same timeline to" dechemicalize" this feeling....why? Why? Why? 

This is so so so wrong?! Say we human spend our energy, time, efforts to work for the whole life with the reason to ernm gain experience and money right? (take long time say 40years to collect or to build something) but then we can just spend our money in an blink of eye (take just a short amount of time to destroy what we fought so hard to build) and ya this principel should also work the same for love right? (take a long time to build and should take a short time to destroy this) but sad to say....this formula don't work in Love....

We take a long time to build a relationship....and we take a longer time to heal the whole process when things go wrong....interesting huh .....

So what is love actually? It's chemical reaction within the body that's no doubt about it....but why this thing is so special? It don't apply to the same physic rules like any other things do....why is there a need for this feeling to exist within these homosapien  in the first place? Can these homosapien live without the existence of love? Can we be what we stand today without this special thing?

I came across with this article and sense a great disturbance in the force….

Apparently this article is saying “been a gentleman, he must sacrifice his life for the common good of the people around him” therefore this leads to a burning question ....is sacrificing his own life for the person he love (just like a candle) is a must have criteria of a gentleman?

Anyway the tips below would keep you guys’ mind thinking huh hahah XD

1) in the 16^th century or the golden age (if that’s what is call haha)….it’s the era where many great inventions was created and it’s also the time where great conquest was 1^st started (i.e Queen Elizabeth of The Great Britain ordered her commanders’ to start the world 1^st international trade across continents)…meanwhile its also the era where many civil wars occurred (i.e The French Revolution, Civil war between The Britons and the peasant in the U.S etc…)

Now…soldiers in the 16^th century was often regarded as the Gentleman Soldiers partly because soldiers at those time was only being equipped with a single rifle with a bag of “mini ball” (the bullet name), meanwhile soldiers are always ask to march towards the enemy frontline openly and are not allowed to break the line with their comrades nor even given the right to open fire until strict order by the captain to do so. …so ya imagine this…a line of soldier …marching towards the enemy line ….openly….. Meanwhile fears trembling down to their feet as they can see flashes of rifles and canons firing towards them…and the worse part is…they cannot evade the scene but to march …..and march…and march….and march…and ya ***BOOMMM*** they are shot….and ya THE END Muahaha XD…..

3) from my own experience in a failed relationship ….well X always tell me I am too defensive of myself because I would have something to support myself whenever there a claim on me….but hey is it wrong if the claims made by X was wrong…as like…I never even do that in the 1^st place, while X heard those claims from some 3^rd parties?....is it wrong or so ungentle man like if I just stand up for myself and explain those claims are nothing but a mythical claims created by some 3^rd parties?...
